Climate can affect the most basic concepts of a culture from what structures are made out of to what the average meal will consist of. Depending on where the culture is located in the world, the culture will be shaped by the climate to different extents. For example, if the climate is extremely harsh and cold the culture will most likely be focused around hunting and survival skills since vegetables and fruits will have a hard time growing and staying outside unprotected can lead to death but in a climate that is warm and pleasant, the culture might focus on other things like arts and entertainment because they don't need to worry about survival and hunting as much because the climate promotes life.
Climate regions of the world
|
Oceanic ClimateThis climate gives moderate precipitation but unpredictable weather and a potential for severe weather disasters such as typhoons and tsunamis.
|
Warm SummersWarm summers bring most of the precipitation for the year as well as hot and humid temperatures. Summers are short and is when most crops are grown like rice and potatoes.
|
Cold, Dry WintersThe winters bring cold, northern winds and clear skies for the most part. The winters are long and don't bring much precipitation apart from the occasional snow storm but winter is the least ideal season as it is hard to grow anything in such weather.

How North Korean Culture is Affected
The North Korean climate has affected the culture by limiting what kind of crops can be grown locally by the North Korean people. The whole ideology of the people of North Korea is to live and build off of their land so rice and potatoes (really the only crops that grown in the harsh and unpredictable climate) is a staple of North Korean cuisine. They do import wheat and other food resources but the majority of the population lives off of what they can grow.
Since rice and potatoes are so important many people work in agricultural industry. Farmers don't make a lot of money selling rice and potatoes so the majority of families are pretty low income and live in less than average residences. This means that the families are weak and prone to influence from a greater power than them, which is the North Korean government in this case. They are devoted to the North Korean government because of the situation that they are in and this all plays in with their juche ideology. |
